Clevedon, it’s time to ‘Have your Say’ about the future of our village.
Over the past nine-months, Franklin Local Board has had plans developed for some of our most treasured community assets, namely the A&P Showgrounds and the publically-owned land in Clevedon Village, collectively known as the ‘Clevedon Heart’.
Franklin Local Board are now inviting our community to provide their feedback about these concepts.
Residents have until Wednesday 8 May to view the plans and provide feedback. You can view the plans on the signs outside the showgrounds and the village playground, or you can download the plans and supporting documents from the AK Have your Say website.
On Thursday 2 May the Franklin Local Board will host a ‘drop in session’ at the Clevedon District Centre from 3-6.30pm.
Franklin Local Board chair Angela Fulljames says developing the plans was triggered by community concerns about the impact of growth on Clevedon, and the need to renew the North Rd playground.
“The population is growing with new developments established, most of which surround the community spaces around the village and showgrounds. Before renewing the playground, we asked staff to review community spaces available to the community in view of all the growth and change that saw two workshops held that led to draft concept plans for the two areas.
The plans will;
> Ensure facilities and public spaces are fit-for-purpose as our community grows,
> Guide investment and the location of improvements.
Key user groups and stakeholders have been engaged during the earlier part of the process and this is an opportunity for the wider community to provide feedback.
The plans are just ideas for now; Council funding is only available for playground improvements at North Road. However, as Council set their goals and priorities over the coming years, a collective vision for our growing village will be a cornerstone of the decision making process around where to focus expenditure.
“We have limited funding – about $600,000 that would only go some way towards renewing the playground and hall, so we need to make it clear it’s not a funded plan, but we must have a plan in place to attract growth funding and third party investment,” says Angela.
“There is only limited renewal budget allocated to deliver the plans, but aspects will go ahead as money becomes available.”
Key features of the plans:
The draft Clevedon A&P Showgrounds plan helps guide the council and other organisation (like sports clubs) on where they can develop future facilities, and prioritise the infrastructure; like drainage, lighting and walkways, to enable the spaces to be optimised by different groups.
The draft Clevedon Village Heart Plan addresses the Clevedon Hall site (including adjacent carpark, toilets, playground and vacant residential property on the corner of Twilight Road), the Clevedon District Centre and the Clevedon Village Reserve. It aims to:
- Expand the playground with a mixture of nature-inspired play elements and rural-themed structures
- Build a bike hub, public toilets and shower, to accommodate growing cycling visitation
- Create a multi-use carpark area and make room for an outdoor events area
- Create a new hall foyer, extending towards Papakura-Clevedon Road
- Open up the northern side of the building (the supper room) to create a deck area
- Replace the current library with a mobile library to create more space for parking
- Move the Clevedon Plunket Clinic to the District Centre site to accommodate consultation rooms and other community services
- Establish a civic garden adjacent to the District Centre
- Keep the Clevedon Village Reserve as a green space and enhance it through the installation of seating and signage.
Initial drafts were presented to board this year, with direction given to take the plans to public consultation to ensure the wider community could give feedback, including on which parts of the plans should take priority.
